...was well placed. He was one of the few who had a decent game yesterday. But as I pointed out in my earlier post, the key for the U.S. team is how much offense their "stars" can generate. Donovan et. al. didn't do much yesterday. They've got to play better if the U.S. has a chance to advance.

The whole team was way too tentative on offense. After the Czechs scored the first time, the US did a good job of maintaining possession and controlling the midfield, notwitstanding the dopey commentary on ESPN2, but they could not figure out how to attack with any vigour. They were trying to outthink the Czechs, and showed no aggression. The second goal deflated them.
Reyna's shot was so close to going in. If it does, I think it's an entirely different game, because it would have given them a lift and taken the pressure off. Which is not to say that the Czechs wouldn't still have scored three goals, but it would have been a much-needed icebreaker.
