Two years ago some of our most effective post rotations involved playing Mark Blount at PF and Kendrick Perkins at C. The team's decision to ditch Blount last year led to a real drop in performance in the short term as Jefferson was woefully unable to stay on the court due to constant foul trouble, his failure to grasp the team's defensive schemes, a lack of confidence in his own offense, and so on
This year, however, Jefferson has been one of the most improved players in the NBA. The difference in his game from September to March has been incredible. He's finally doing now on the court what the franchise has been waiting to see since they drafted him. The back-and-forth between him and Pierce in recent games has been especially gratifying to watch.
The timing might have been nicer if he'd shown this a year ago, but in the grand scheme of things that's a small complaint. With Jefferson playing the way he is I can't imagine anyone in Boston is missing Blount for even half a second
